Perry started out in a band he formed called The Jam Band, before forming Aerosmith with Steven Tyler and reached great heights, with several hit records during the 1970's. Tyler and Perry became known as "the Toxic Twins" because of their hard-partying and drink and drug use. The lifestyle eventually caught up with the band after a backstage row, and Perry left Aerosmith in 1979 to start his own band "The Joe Perry Project". As a live act The Project were well received, they didn't sell many records. In 1984 after making up with Steven Tyler, Perry returned to Aerosmith and is still in the band today. Interest in Aerosmith was re-kidled when they collaborated with Run DMC on "Walk This Way", they went on to have another string of hit records since then, touring almost every year.
