She appeared onto the music scene in 1981 with the new wave classic "Kids in America", that managed to hit the number two spot in the UK Singles Chart. Success in the U.S.A. eluded her until 1987, when she hit the top of the charts with her version of The Supremes' hit "You Keep Me Hangin' On".
