His career started at just six years old with the band his brothers were in, called The Jackson Brothers. To begin with he sang backing vocals, but by the time he was eight he had become the lead singer and the band had changed its name to The Jackson Five - signed to Motown. They made history when their fist four singles all went to the top spot in the US charts. By '72 Michael was beginning to work as a solo artist as well as performing as part of the Jackson 5. In '75 The Jackson 5 quit Motown Records, signing with CBS Records and changing the bands name to "The Jacksons" (for legal reasons). Then in '78 Michael Jackson worked with Quincy Jones on solo album "Off The Wall" which went on to sell 20 million units worldwide. Jackson's next release, "Thriller" made him the biggest pop star on Earth. Thriller has sold more copies than any other album in history, with an incredible 100+ million copies sold. Thriller was at number one in the US charts for 37 weeks. Follwing the huge success of Thriller the media turned its attention to Jackson. He began to be reported as a weirdo, the press reported he slept in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, lived in his Neverland theme-park, owned a pet monkey, and bought the bones of The Elephant Man. These stories gained him the nickname "Wacko Jacko". The follow up to Thriller, "Bad" did not reach the heights of Thriller, but was still a big success with sales of 30+ million. Jackson's next album was "Dangerous" which also sold 30+ million units. He made a best-of album in '95 called "HIStory". After that he had two releases: "Invincible", and a 2nd best-of album "King of Pop". He was planning a series of comeback gigs at the O2 arena in Britain when he died unexpectedly in 2009.
