In case you didn’t know, 8Ball Towers is located in the heart of England in a sunny lil ol place called Stafford. Its a small county town with not a hell of a lot going on, but a local musician is causing quite a stir with his homage to his home town. Bourne from the hottest town forum, Stafford Forum he wrote the ditty and has been performing it around the town to an appreciative audience. Some shaky footage of a drunken perfomance on Google Video was noticed by the local radio station, Signal, who launched a manhunt for the mysterious ‘Sofa’, amid calls from listeners around the county literally singing its praises.
He was eventually tracked down via the forum, and was asked in for an interview and a documentary of the trip was duly filmed by local film makers Jasper Films . Now a local celebrity, Sofa has been in all the local papers, and now intends to record the tune with a full band. He’s even getting some t-shirts printed up taken from his lyric’s “ST16 ’til I die”, which is one of the towns post codes. All hail the power of the internet!

Busy year once again for ageing rockers The Rolling Stones who will headline the Isle of Wight festival on June 10th. Unbelievably this is the band’s first festival date in the UK since Knebworth Fair in 1976. Sir Mick Jagger said he would have liked to have played Glastonbury, but “the Isle of Wight was the one who offered, so that’s the one we did”. The Isle of Wight festival will be part of the second leg of The Bigger Bang Tour, taking in Russia, Ireland, Romania and London’s O2 Arena. Being the conscious rockers they are Mick also said the band’s carbon footprint was “rather enormous” - but that the band had started taking measures to offset it at least three years ago. “We were part of this whole thing where we planted lots of tress, like Coldplay,” he said. “We didn’t make a huge publicity stunt about it but we did it.”
The Bigger Bang Tour has been the highest grossing tour in history playing 110 shows in front of 3.5 million fans, taking £226m.

In other news, its been a week of rockers getting busted by the police. Velvet Revolver singer Scott Weiland was arrested last week on arson and vandalism charges after a row with his wife. He burnt a load of clothes, and then the pair of them left two rooms vandalised after an argument at a luxury hotel, police said.

Meanwhile in Scotland, Iron Maiden’s Nicko McBrain was caught doing 116mph on the motorway. The police gave him A Piece of (their) Mind for nearly causing Death On The Road and banned him from driving for 6 months. Sorry.

Here at 8Ball Towers we are looking forward this week to the release of Blades of Glory, the new movie from Will Ferrell. Having teamed up with Napoleon Dynamite’s Jon Heder this is to be a sure fire hit as previous Ferrell offerings Anchorman & Talladega Nights. Can’t wait!
