Previously unheard Joe Strummer track gets an airing

Monday, June 25th, 2007

A previously unheard track by Clash legend Joe Strummer is to be aired on BBC Radio Ulster’s Late Show.
“Divorcing Jack” was written but never used by the Clash singer for a low budget film of the same name; a black romantic comedy set around the troubled “peace process” and its effect on a cynical Belfast journalist.
The film was originally a book by author Colin Bateman, who kept the recording secret until now, but the song will be played in a Late Show special dedicated to the singer who died from an undiagnosed congenital heart defect, in December 2002 aged 50.
The show will also have tributes from fans and Strummer associates, and interviews from years ago.

The Late Show with Stuart Bailie is on BBC Radio Ulster on Friday at 2200 BST.

Borat in trouble..

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

It seems ages ago since Borat both delighted and revolted us in equal measure, but unwitting ‘extras’ in the movie are still trying to sue the makers 20th Century Fox for the distress of being made to look like idiots.
Most recently the guy who legs it from Borat when he first tries to greet a native New Yorker, is now claiming ‘emotional damage’, but there are numerous other similar complaints, so we thought we’d list the idiots here for your amusement;

-The two frat kids who pick up Borat in their camper van claim they were plied with alcohol and ‘tricked into making racist and sexist remarks’ on camera. Lolz..

-Two residents of Glod, Romania which stood in for Kazakhstan in the movie, unsuccessfully sued 20th Century Fox for $30m (£15.2m), claiming they and their neighbours were depicted as rapists and criminals.

-One of the finest scenes ever commited to celluloid which shows etiquette consultant Cindy Streit holding a bag full of Borat’s crap said she is considering legal action. Ms Streit claims she was told she was being filmed for a documentary that would only be shown on Belarus Television.

-Jim Sell, a car salesman from Maryland said he was approached by the producers of the movie at his car dealership in and asked to take part in the film. He was handed 150 dollars sold an ice cream van after advising Borat which car is most suitable for killing a family of gypsies! This poor guy claims his reputation has been ruined as a result, as he cannot sell second-hand vans.
