Dig out your band T-shirts to support Pearl Jam It’s not every day that a legendary rock band announces that they are set to invest a whopping $210,000 (£139,021) in planting trees in Washington state.

That’s why Pearl Jam fans should make sure they dig out their band T-shirts in order to support the group, who hope their move will soak up 7,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide to counteract the damage to the environment their 32-date 2009 tour caused.

“We’re seeing ourselves as a Washington business, a regional business that is acknowledging its carbon footprint and hoping to inspire other businesses,” guitarist and co-founder of the band Stone Gossard told Reuters.

He added it is hoped that the move will offset the carbon emissions produced by some 480,000 fans travelling to their worldwide gigs in 2009, as well as the use of fossil fuels linked to the band being transported around the world on planes, ships and lorries.

According to the Pearl Jam website, the group is committed to pursuing “ongoing efforts to advance clean renewable energy and carbon mitigation”.ADNFCR-2904-ID-19698429-ADNFCR
