Dig out Rolling Stones music T-shirt to celebrate new number one All of us old enough to remember the Rolling Stones in their 1970s heyday will be delighted to hear the band return to the top of the UK charts last night (May 23rd).

With a re-release of the classic record Exile On Main Street, the group went to number one in the album chart.

Even true fans of the Rolling Stones may be struggling to remember their last chart topper – which, for the record, was 1994′s Voodoo Lounge.

Mick Jagger and the rest beat off competition from Faithless and their release The Dance, which entered the rundown in second place.

Other fans of the Rolling Stones could join me tonight in wearing a music T-shirt featuring the band at their best in order to celebrate this triumph.

David Joseph, chairman of the group’s label Universal Music UK, admitted: “It’s quite a result for an album from 1972 to be back at number one.”

Exile On Main Street was not the only release from the year to hit the charts this week though, as a re-release of Leeds United’s Marching On Together made it into the top ten on the singles chart.ADNFCR-2904-ID-19796008-ADNFCR
