I was as excited as anybody when Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States a year or two ago.

And it certainly seems that since then the first black man to reach the nation’s top post has done things his own way since his famous inauguration.

His health reforms, for one, may have caused some controversy but also gained him a lot of respect for determination and innovation.

In his latest move, Mr Obama has appointed Solicitor Elena Kagan to the position of justice to the Supreme Court.

She becomes the 112th person to hold the post in American history and will be only the third female member of the current court.

However, despite his brave appointment, the Republicans warned it was not guaranteed Ms Kagan will be approved by the Senate.
