Rise of pop may influence music T-shirts

Those of us with a vast collection of music T-shirts in our wardrobes may have every genre covered when it comes to deciding what to wear to a gig or public appearance by a star.
But those who are a little more choosy may be interested to learn that pop has at last overtaken rock as the UK’s most popular type of music.
And that could affect their decision when it next comes to buying a music T-shirt.
New statistics from the Official Charts Company show some 33.5 per cent of all music sold in the country in 2009 were classed as pop, up from 28 per cent the year before.
In contrast, rock’s share of the market dipped from 31 per cent to 24.5 per cent, despite Rage Against The Machine’s huge Christmas number one.
Five of the six top-selling singles of 2009 were by pop artists, headed by Lady Gaga and Cheryl Cole.
