Attention funny T-shirt wearers: Facebook launches new app
filed in Gossip on Aug.19, 2010
A new Facebook application allowing users to share their exact location in real time has been released in the US.
The Places service, which is available to iPhone owners, allows people to share exactly where they are by “checking in” to that place online, letting friends know their whereabouts.
Michael Sharon, Facebook product manager for the Places application, said: “If you’re like me, when you find a place you really like, you want to tell your friends you’re there.”
He added that the app lets users access a list of people in the same location, who have allowed themselves to be seen by adjusting their settings.
The release of Places is currently restricted to the US by Facebook – which launched a new online safety page last month – although plans are already in place to roll it out across more countries and on additional mobile platforms soon.
Those who want a chuckle at the expense of the social networking site can do so by grabbing one of the many funny T-shirts dedicated to it available at 8ball.co.uk
