George Clinton, the singer of Parliament and Funkadelic, is suing Black Eyed Peas for copyright infringement.
The funk legend has filed a paper with the US District Court in Los Angeles claiming the band did not ask permission to use a sample from his 1979 song (Not Just) Knee Deep on a remix of their 2003 single Shut Up, reports Billboard.
According to the website, Clinton said he rejected a request from the band to sample the track, not knowing at the time his song had already been used in a previous version that appeared on the group’s album The E.N.D.
Clinton is seeking maximum statutory damages of $150,000 (£94,000) per infringement and an injunction prohibiting further distribution of the infringing song.
