Corey Taylor, one member of popular metal band Slipknot, has spoken out about the lyrics and work that has influenced his career in the music business.
In an interview with the Guardian, the vocalist explains the words sung by two of the world’s biggest bands have stayed with him for many years.
Firstly, he highlights the line ‘No one gets out alive’ in Five to One by the Doors, performed by the legendary Jim Morrison.
He goes on to note lyrics from Nirvana’s iconic hit Smells Like Teen Spirit have also been important to him.
In particular, it is when the band – led by the late Kurt Cobain – state ‘Here we are now, entertain us’ that has an impact on Taylor.
“I’ve always gravitated towards those ultimate lines in songs, the line you grab on to,” he tells the newspaper.
