Daltrey 'feared losing his voice' Roger Daltrey has revealed that in December 2009 he had an operation on his throat and feared losing his voice.

He told CBS Los Angeles that he first became aware that something was not right after completing a 30-date tour.

The legendary frontman of The Who visited to a specialist after he found his voice “wasn’t behaving in a normal way”.

According to his doctor Steven Zeitels, director of the Mass General Voice Center in Massachusetts, Daltrey was suffering from a pre-cancerous growth that would need watching even after he had worked on the problem area.

“I got depressed after he did the operation, during what I call the Big Silence … That’s when I realised what it would be like to not have a voice,” he stated.

However, just six weeks after going under the knife he was singing at the Superbowl, performing hits such as Pinball Wizard, Who Are You and Won’t Get Fooled Again.
