A ballet with an orchestral score written by Sir Paul McCartney will make its premier in the autumn of this year.
Ocean’s Kingdom will be performed by the New York City Ballet at the company’s fall gala on September 22nd, with a number of other dates yet to be announced.
The musician – who is thought to have sold 450 million records worldwide with The Beatles – said the show was “basically a romantic story” where “there’s all sorts of troubles along the way”, according to the New York Times.
Choreographer Paul Martins told the publication that he thought of collaborating with McCartney after the pair met at a fundraiser.
“Of course, being a Beatles fan – because that’s my generation – I was very intrigued,” said Martins of his initial reaction to working on the piece.
Fans of The Beatles may want to pick up a new music t-shirt to celebrate Sir Paul’s new foray.
