Coldplay asked to record anthem for 2012 Olympics Coldplay have been asked to record the official anthem for the 2012 London Olympics, according to reports.

The Mirror claimed the act – whose singles include Viva la Vida, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face and The Scientist – have been approached by organisers to provide “something inspirational” when performing the track at the opening ceremony.

An insider told the newspaper that the band’s frontman Chris Martin was “top of the list” to record Welcome Song, which will be written by arts charity The Dartington Hall Trust.

“We’re pulling out all the stops to get hold of him, ideally with the rest of Coldplay involved too … their style of anthemic music would be perfect for the Olympics,” the source added.
