Tonight, we’ve got some of the most bizarre political campaign adverts ever made for you. So sit back and enjoy the madness.
Strangest political campaign videos
Our first video only dates back a few weeks. Here’s a bit of information to help you make sense of it: Last weekend, Poland’s ruling party held on to power after winning almost 40% of the vote in the country’s parliamentary election. Until 1989, Poland was a communist state, after which the Communist Party was replaced by the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD). Apparently the SLD were expecting to do quite well in this election, but they ended up winning less than 8% of the vote. When it comes to campaign ads, though, they were in a league of their own, as the following video featuring one of their candidates, a PhD graduate by the name of Jędrzej Wijas, demonstrates.

We even managed to find a translation of the lyrics for you:

“End of the useless talking,
Enough of the stupid wars,
Secular government,
Dignified life,
Freedom,
Is my goal,
Vote wisely.”

Mr Wijas has claimed his 46 second heavy metal assault wasn’t just a publicity stunt, telling an interviewer: “I know this environment, I’m a fan of that sound, I go to rock concerts…” He also insists it’s his voice that you can hear in the video. As election campaign ads go, this is certainly strange, but we’d vote for him given the chance. (By way of comparison, we just watched Nick Clegg’s “Say goodbye to broken promises” video from April last year and promptly did a little bit of sick in our mouths).

The SLD advert was definitely original, but it’s not the first political ad to use music in unexpected ways. This next campaign video from Congressional candidate Rudy Moise features some of the most gratuitous use of auto-tune we have ever witnessed. It’s awkward to watch and it will hurt your ears, but there’s also something quite charming about the ineptness of it all…

If you found the Rudy Moise video strangely catchy, brace yourself for this sickeningly infectious pile of all-American bullshit courtesy of Florida’s Mike Weinstein.

Learn the words, master the dance moves, then realise maybe it’s not so bad in Blighty after all.

Altogether more sinister (but also very very funny) is rifle-wielding Republican Dale Peterson’s campaign to be elected to the dizzy heights of Alabama Agriculture Commissioner. Basically a minute-long paranoid stream of consciousness tirade about “illegals” and opponents “stealing yard signs”, all edited like it’s an episode of MTV Cribs, this is essential viewing.

And finally, here’s a delightful little animation depicting Massachusetts politicians inserting their heads into their own arseholes.
