Yesterday was Guinness World Records Day and people around the world were pushing themselves to the limit in bids to claim world records for all sorts of weird and wonderful things. Some record attempts were more impressive than others, but one that really caught our attention was that of the world’s largest 3D painting (pictured above). This was created by talented British artist Joe Hill (one half of the renowned 3D Joe and Max).

The impressive piece was painstakingly created on the streets of Canary Wharf in London and measures a staggering 1160.45m squared. As you’ll probably already know, we are huge fans of street art here at 8Ball and we know a lot of 8Ballers are too. So, we’ve dedicated this post to showing you a couple of our favourite examples of 3D street art from around the world. These are truly brilliant!

Mueller’s Lava Burst

This piece was created by Edgar Mueller and is perhaps one of the most dramatic pieces of 3D street art we’ve seen to date. The piece turns a German street into an apocalyptic scene and Mueller’s use of depth and perception is impeccable.

Beever’s Hosepipe

English artist Julian Beever came up with this genius idea and executed it perfectly. Beever has been known to paint random potholes in pavements that are so realistic that people actually swerve to avoid them! This piece is particularly deceptive.

Beever’s Batman and Robin

In this photograph, Beever appears to be perching on a ledge, waiting for Batman and Robin to rescue him from a burning building. Below are the crowds looking up in anticipation. But actually, Julian’s fine! He’s safely crouched at street level in another one of his fantastic pieces.

Kurt Wenner’s Underground

This example is slightly more surreal and depicts a fantasy entrance to Piccadilly Circus Tube Station. From the right angle, it looks as though you too could enter this trippy scene!

If you’re still hungry for more urban art, you should definitely check out 8Ball’s range of Banksy tshirts. They’re awesome!
