Yesterday, reports emerged that Noel Gallagher is being lined up to write the theme tune for Skyfall, the next Bond film.

We were more than ready to get on board with this idea, and who are we to doubt an ‘exclusive’ broken by those intrepid truth-seekers over at The Sun?

If we can’t have confidence in a paper known for headlines like “STRAIGHT SEX CANNOT GIVE YOU AIDS – OFFICIAL” and famous for its steadfast commitment to putting soft porn in every living room, who can we trust?

Surely they wouldn’t bother masterminding such prodigious puns as “licence to trill” and “after all, you’re my Thunderball” unless this was a story they could back up.

Surely it had to based on something more than Gallagher’s throwaway remark that his 2008 track Freaky Teeth would make a great Bond theme.

Well, 8Ballers, we’re sorry to break it to you, but it turns out this story has less substance than an especially wispy fart.

Noel took it upon himself to dismiss the rumours on his blog, writing:

“Now, I don’t know whether you’ve seen a story that’s doing the rounds about me being offered the job of penning the tune for the new James Bond film? Apparently I’m being courted by ’007 bosses’!!!!! A meeting will be ‘taking place in the next few days’!!!! With some guy called ‘Michael G. Wilson’ (whoever he is)!!! A ‘source’ says, ‘nothing has been signed or made official’!!!! Of course it f**kin’ hasn’t!!!!!! Who IS this f**kin’ ‘source’? Has he been on the ‘sauce’(alcohol)? Bizarre indeed.”

The Sun’s celebrity gossip column is called Bizarre, so at least they lived up to that.

This all brings us back to one question – who should be entrusted with writing the next Bond theme?

We heard Slayer are working on a new album – how about a metal Bond theme guys? Something like this, yeah?

Or maybe they could get the likes of Nero to do a dubstep theme? This fella’s already done a pretty decent job!

As for our favourite (real) Bond theme from the past, it has to be this classic from 1985.

Who would you like to see on theme-writing duties for the next Bond film? And what’s your favourite Bond theme to date? Let the debate begin…
