Recognise the three fellas above? No? Look closely; it’s the Hanson brothers. They were responsible for that god-awful, yet annoyingly infectious song ‘Mmmbop’, back in 1997. The squeaky clean trio managed to storm the charts with their debut track, reaching the top of the charts in 27 countries, including the UK.

We’ll forgive you for thinking that they were one hit wonders. In fact, we thought they were until we did a bit of research. Apparently, they released a further four tacks from their first major album and have since released a further 8 albums. We can only assume that they weren’t as successful, or perhaps we’ve just subconsciously avoided them. However, to date they have sold around 16 million albums worldwide, which is certainly nothing to be sniffed at.

Anyway, the brothers have hit the headlines recently, but not because of their music. In a complete change of direction, Hanson have revealed that they will be launching their very own brand of ale in early 2012. Real ale is becoming somewhat fashionable at the moment, with more and more people switching from the mass-produce and often flavourless beers that can be found in many of the mainstream pubs to real ales that are packed full of flavour.

The brew, an IPA (Indian pale ale) will be called ‘Mmmhop’ in a bid to achieve the same level of success with their alcoholic beverage as they did with their 1997 single. The band are no strangers to extravagant merchandising – they even have their own version of the board game Monopoly, called ‘Hansonopoly’. In all honesty, we didn’t know that these guys were still performing together and to be honest, we don’t really care! However, when it hits the shops next year, we’ll definitely give their tipple a go!

In case you forgot just how annoying ‘Mmmbop’ was, here’s a little reminder. Be warned, this may well stay lodged in your brain for a long time.
