We’re huge Bowie fans here at 8Ball, so today, being the great man’s birthday, we thought we’d dedicate a post to him. At 65 Bowie is semi-retired, yet his music remains as popular today as it ever was. He hasn’t released a record since his album Reality back in 2003, yet his extensive back catalogue influences many of today’s artists and his music still resonates with audiences around the world.

In his fascinating career that has so far spanned over 40 years, Bowie has produced some totally forward-thinking, experimental and downright genius masterpieces. If you’ve never thought to sit down and really listen to his music, we highly recommend that you do – we are 98% sure that you won’t be disappointed!

It’s hard to put your finger on exactly what genre Bowie’s music falls under, with each album often completely changing direction from the last. He was often dubbed a ‘musical chameleon’ because he constantly reinvented his sound – folk, soul, glam rock, disco, psychedelia, and even avant-garde electronica; he had all the bases covered.

“I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t be boring.”– David Bowie

Bowie has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music over the years. Everyone wanted a piece of him, and it’s clear to see why. There are very few musicians that are able to boast a career as successful as his – more than 136 million album sales worldwide.

Anyway, we could go on praising the guy for hours, but we’d rather let his music do the talking. We’d like to share with you five of our favourite Bowie tracks of all time. With so many brilliant tracks to choose from, it was no easy task to whittle the list down to just 5, but here goes anyway…
