Politically conscious experimental rock demigods to the enlightened few, self-indulgent gloom-peddlers to the cerebrally-stunted masses, there is no band quite like Radiohead.

We always look forward to seeing what they come up with next – the journey from their 1993 debut Pablo Honey to their 2011 release The King of Limbs spans a mind-boggling range of influences and sounds, and many classical musicians and composers admire their work.

But like any band, it all came from pretty humble beginnings. Well, not that humble actually – they formed under the name ‘On A Friday’ in 1985 at Abingdon School, an elite institution founded hundreds of years ago by Benedictine monks where bright young boys can learn Russian or Art History for around £10k a term. But basically, they were a bunch of kids who wanted to make music.

The following year, in 1986, they recorded a demo, and it seems 2 tracks laid down during that session have now surfaced online. ‘Fragile Friend’ and ‘Fat Girl’ were recorded before Jonny Greenwood joined the band as lead guitarist, and sound, quite endearingly, like they were recorded on something like this:

We have no idea who leaked these tracks, or why they’ve chosen to do so now. All we know is they offer a tantalising glimpse of the beginnings of a brilliant band, along with some weird trumpets, slightly car-chasey guitar riffs, and vocals somewhere between Bowie and Morrissey…

Just before Christmas, a track rather gloriously titled ‘Putting Ketchup In The Fridge’ emerged online, with reports citing it as a lost Radiohead track from the 90s. It turns out it was actually recorded by a bakery owner in Toronto.

Having said that, we reckon the latest tracks to surface are the real deal. What do you think?
