So, the bankers have made a right ol’ hash of the UK’s economy and many of us are feeling the pinch. But feeling the effect of this economic shitstorm isn’t reserved solely for the ‘Average Joe’. It would appear that even the ‘rich’ and famous are having to resort to drastic measures and, dare I say it, do some work.

So far this year, we’ve got the reunifications of several legendary bands to look forward to. The Stone Roses will be playing sell-out shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park in June – their first shows in 15 years. Also, we heard somewhere along the grapevine that we might be blessed with another round of the Spice Girls at some point this year *yawn*.

Take That started this whole nostalgia touring thing last year, and they made an absolute packet from it. They sold out shows in massive venues across the country, Gary and the boys made a cool few million each, and now everyone else wants a piece of the action. The music industry has changed so much in recent years, and one of the only ways for musicians to make some serious dough is to go on tour.

Bands from yesteryear have been crawling out of the woodwork, left, right and centre, to cash in on this reunion craze. The latest to jump on the nostalgia bandwagon is The Happy Mondays, who have announced that they will be ‘twistin’ some melons’ later this year. The band announced that they will be touring the UK this May with the original lineup, for the first time since 1992.

The band were at the forefront of the ‘Madchester’ scene in the late 80s, and are best known for their original sound – a blend of indie rock and acid house – as well as their drug-fuelled antics on and off stage. Now much of the band are well into their 40s, so you’d expect that they’ll have calmed it down a notch, but who knows with these guys?

Lead singer (we use the term loosely) and band swaggerer Bez reportedly hit hard times financially in recent years, so can you blame them for jumping at the chance to get back on the road and sell some tickets?

Regardless, we’re sure they’ll put on a great show and give fans a chance to relive some of their legendary hits. Here’s a reminder of just how good they were!
