Back of the net! New Alan Partridge web-series is on the way, possibly followed by Alan Partridge: The Movie
filed in Tv & Movie news on Feb.17, 2012
Steve Coogan’s most enduring creation – the one and only Alan Partridge – is set to return, with a second series of Mid Morning Matters being filmed as we speak.
If you’ve missed Mid Morning Matters, you’re in for a treat. It’s funded by a certain mass-produced Australian beer company, and is only available online. All the action takes place in the North Norfolk Digital studio, where Alan bumbles his way through his brilliantly awkward radio show.
The series is written by Armando Iannucci, who said this:
“I’m delighted to be making another series of Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge. It proves that a considerable number of people like Alan and that some of the things said about him in the press have been proven false.
“He is, actually, a fine local broadcaster, and this series of webisodes, done in conjunction with Foster’s, shows us once again that visually as well as aurally, he is not equalled by many – again, locally.”
Partridge himself also commented:
“I’ve always been more than comfortable in my association with this warmly regarded mid-range lager. I am quietly flabbergasted that the good people at Foster’s think that, by associating themselves with my webcast, people will consume more of their product.
“I don’t drink it myself but I’m familiar with it and firmly believe that the 20-30 age demographic should have access to affordable lager. Going forward, I look forward to moving forward with Foster’s in an atmosphere of bland co-operation. It’s a good fit. It feels right. I like it.”
Here are some of the deleted scenes:
Mid Morning Matters may eventually make it onto TV, with recent reports suggesting that the ever-discerning Sky Atlantic are in talks to broadcast full-length episodes of the series.
Word on the street is we may even have an Alan Partridge movie to look forward to! This was actually announced back in 2005, but it was put on the backburner after the July 7th London terrorist attacks – the plot centred on an Al-Qaeda siege of the BBC’s offices, and the subject became too sensitive after the London bombings. But the story has now been reconceived, and writer Rob Gibbons has claimed they’re almost ready to begin filming.
