New Gorillaz track on its way
filed in Music News on Feb.13, 2012
This’ll make you feel old: Gorillaz released their self-titled debut album in March 2001. Yes, the audio-visual extravaganza that is the brainchild of Brit-pop legend Damon Albarn and comic book artist Jamie Hewlett, released their first track nearly 11 whole years ago!
Gorillaz is more of a collaborative experiment than a band. Albarn is the only permanent musician and Hewlett creates a cartoon world, in which this virtual band exists. It’s hard to pinpoint a genre. There are elements of hip-hop, electronica, blues, rock, dub, trip-hop – the list goes on. But they all come together to produce something that’s not far off genius.
For millions of people, just hearing the debut single Clint Eastwood was enough to get them hooked.
Now, four albums on and millions of album sales worldwide, we are soon to indulge in Gorillaz’ latest offering. It has been announced that Albarn and his ‘band’ have teamed up with Outkast’s Andre 3000 and Mr DFA Records and LCD Soundsystem frontman, James Murphy. The track is to be titled ‘DoYaThing’ and will be available to download from Converse.co.uk as part of Converse’s ‘Three Artists. One Song’ series.
The track will be available to download on February 23rd and to celebrate its launch, Hewlett has designed a range of limited edition Chuck Taylor boots.
We’re really looking forward to hearing this one, and according to Damon Albarn, fans have an unedited 12 minute version to look forward to in the near future.
In the meantime, here’s another little belter to whet your appetite.
