Transformers started life 27 years ago, and was set to be far more than just a TV show or comic book from the word go. It is a worldwide franchise – a hugely successful worldwide franchise, in fact. Since they launched in 1984, we’ve seen movies, toys, comic books, TV shows and all manner of merchandise. Who didn’t have a Transformers lunch box as a kid?

Even today, the Transformers brand is going strong. 2007 saw director Michael Bay bring the warring Autobots and Deceptibots back to the big screen. This was the first of the live-action Transformer movies and performed incredibly well at the box office, taking the franchise to new heights.

A further two films have since been released and rumours are now rife that a fourth instalment is on the way. In a recent interview with MTV, producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura let slip that plans are well underway to make a fourth film and that Bay will direct it.

Although it hasn’t been 100% confirmed, we hope the rumours are true. Di Bonaventura hinted that the movie will commence production this year, and will be released in summer 2014. So, don’t get over-excited just yet! He didn’t give the game away about the storyline, yet he did mention that it could well be a reboot with a totally new cast.

We’ll keep you posted on this one 8Ballers.
