A piece of Banksy wall art has caused controversy after he sprayed over a work that has remained untouched since it was created by fellow graffiti artist Robbo.
The original work had stood unchanged along the Regent’s Canal in north London for 25 years – until just a few days ago.
Banksy produced a number of pieces by the waterway in the run-up to Christmas – including one that showed workmen painting over the 1985 work.
The Daily Mail noted: “Covering over someone else’s graffiti is seen as the ultimate mark of disrespect within the street art community.”
Robbo – whose real name is not known – retaliated by reclaiming his artistic space by covering over the exposed part of the wall with a new picture, which features the words “King Robbo” in large silver lettering.
Last month, X Factor mogul Simon Cowell received a piece of specially-commissioned Banksy artwork worth £500,000 as a Christmas gift.
