And the winner is… not the Black Eyed Peas

It’s that time of year again when we’re inundated with awards ceremonies and (usually) the same string of winners.
But this weekend the NRJ Awards in France provided some amusement that was unrelated to the music.
A mix up saw the Black Eyed Peas pronounced the winners of the gong for best international group, only to have it taken away as the band’s name had been mistakenly read out.
American singer Kesha and French choreographer Kamel Ouali were presenting the award and left the stage looking a little silly after no one arrived to collect the trophy.
Ouali later explained that he’d been confused as the card listed the nominees in addition to the winner – although you’d have thought they’d make it clear which was which.
German band Tokio Hotel were in fact the victors and did eventually claim their prize.
The blunder could lead to some funny t-shirts in time for the next awards ceremony.
Despite losing out in the best international group category, the Black Eyed Peas didn’t leave empty handed as they picked up the accolade of best international song for I Gotta Feeling.
Let’s hope they have better luck at the Brits, where they’re up for best international album for their latest offering The End.
