filed in Gossip on Aug.20, 2008
A new photographic exhibition is starting tomorrow which will display rare and unseen photographs of the five most celebrated members of the infamous musicians club ‘Forever 27’ - 27 being the age a host of rock n rolls most influential icons have died.
Camden’s Proud Gallery is exhibiting photos from 21 August until 12 October.
More than 30 musicians make up the 27 Club in total, however the exhibition will focus on only five; Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Doors‘ Jim Morrison and Brian Jones from the Rolling Stones..
The most famous members of the 27 Club were all popular musicians, at the height of the musical creativity and fame at the time of their deaths. Founder Rolling Stones member Brian Jones was found drowned in a swimming pool in 1969; legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix overdosed on sleeping pills in 1970; folk singer Janis Joplin overdosed on heroin months later; Jim Morrison, the frontman from The Doors, died in unexplained circumstances in 1971; and most recently Kurt Cobain, singer and songwriter for Nirvana, killed himself with a shot gun in 1994.
For classic rock fanatics this is a must see exhibition, Forever 27 pays tribute to the talent of our musical heroes and ultimately questions the ways in which fame and notoriety affect the musicians whom we idolise so much.
