From football fields to treading the boards There aren’t likely to be any calls of the familiar “ohh-ahh Cantona” chant at the French footballer’s latest string of public appearances.

Having played himself in Ken Loach’s Looking for Eric, he’s swapped the big screen for the stage and is set to tread the boards for the first time tonight (January 26th).

Although he’s known for his theatrics on the pitch, many are intrigued as to whether his charisma will translate to the stage.

Face au Paradis (Faced with Paradise) is a two-man play telling the stories of two survivors trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building.

In an interview with the BBC, Cantona said: “I love passion and I just want to try different things, to feel in danger sometimes. The goal is always the same: To play and feel pleasure.”

We’ll have to wait and see how he fares with the critics after opening night – will it be a tour de force or should Cantona pull on one of his vintage T-shirts sporting the number seven?ADNFCR-2904-ID-19577922-ADNFCR
