Controversy as Guns N’ Roses headline Reading and Leeds

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose declared war on the organisers of this weekend’s Reading and Leeds festivals after a controversial pair of performances.
Last week, event chief Melvin Benn warned the band would not be allowed to play beyond the respective curfews – after overrunning their allocated time when they last appeared eight years ago.
But on Friday, the plug was pulled after GNR arrived on stage at Reading an hour late – prompting a protest as Rose led the crowd in a rendition of Paradise City through a megaphone.
At Leeds they appeared half an hour behind schedule and Rose then claimed promoters were cutting the set short, despite promising the band they would be allowed to play beyond the noise curfew.
“We would like to play a few more songs for you tonight,” said the Guns N’ Roses frontman. “But someone is telling us the show’s over. This war ain’t over yet.”
