Ryder ‘needs autocue’ for Black Grapes gig

Yes, you read that correctly, Shaun Ryder will be reading his lyrics when he steps up on stage to perform with the Black Grapes in London later this year.
According to the Daily Star, he needs it to make sure he doesn’t sing Happy Mondays songs by mistake.
Of course, we all remember the Manchester band in their hey-day, with a plethora of Happy Mondays T-shirts to prove it and the lyrics of tracks like 24 Hour Party People somewhere at the back of our minds.
It would seem that the former Mondays’ front man can also remember the “Madchester” days too clearly as well.
Ryder told the Daily Star: “How does someone who has written hundreds of songs remember them all? If you’d written the Godfather you wouldn’t be able to read it to somebody without the book.”
We’re not sure that a novel is necessarily a fair comparison to a host of songs, but ok.
Whatever Ryder uses to aid his performance, the London gig on April 1st will mark the first time that the trio have played together in more than a decade.
