In a move that is likely to surprise few people, Thom Yorke has thrown his weight firmly behind the Green Party.
The Radiohead frontman has announced that he’ll play a benefit gig at Cambridge’s Corn Exchange.
Never one to shy away from politics, Yorke has admitted it’s more involved than he’d usually get but explained his personal reasons.
“It’s because a friend of mine Tony Juniper is hoping to become one of the first Green members of parliament in the UK. And I wanted to help somehow,” he wrote on the band’s Dead Air Space blog.
Many Radiohead fans will probably already be rushing to find their political T shirts as they’re booking tickets for the gig.
Yorke’s last foray into the world of politics saw him make a high-profile appearance at the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit in December, attending as a member of the press along with Tony Juniper.
After its conclusion, he said that he was “deeply traumatised” by the event and branded the outcome of the conference “truly disgusting”.
