Brad Pitt’s production company has signed up to work on a new vampire film from Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the Twilight series.

According to the Hollywood Report’s Heat Vision blog, the movie is called Vlad and will focus on Count Dracula’s earlier years as a young prince.

Anthony Mandler, who has produced music videos for the likes of Rihanna and Eminem, is set to direct the film.

The blog reports that a show reel produced by Mandler impressed studio chiefs after drawing “comparisons to Zack Snyder and his work on 300″.

Vlad will be based on a script by British actor Charlie Hunnam and is expected to be a “visually edgy and radical period movie”.

The runaway success of Twilight has proved that vampire stories still have plenty of mileage in Hollywood – the second film in the series, New Moon, sold more tickets on its opening day than any other movie in history.

Last month, the Independent reported how Twlight fans had taken to wearing ‘Team Jacob’ or ‘Team Edward’ T-shirts in homage to the film’s central characters.
