Rumours begin over Planet of the Apes prequel It’s probably fair to say that most of us would rather forget the most recent remake of the Planet of the Apes.

But the 1968 version is still considered a classic of its era and has probably inspired a number of retro T-shirts along the way.

Anyway, all that aside, because Deadline Hollywood has revealed that Rupert Wyatt could take the helm for the much talked about prequel.

The latest version of the script has been penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who were among the writers to work on 1997 film The Relic.

But no one seems to know what the story’s about. Empire shed some light by suggesting that it’s probably become far removed from the Caesar concept initially floated by Scott Frank.

Apparently Fox vetoed the idea because they thought it was “too dark and expensive to be feasible”, the magazine revealed.

Expect plenty more rumours and ideas to fly around before anything’s actually finalised though.
