The Sopranos voted best TV drama of all time In a list of the 50 best TV dramas to ever be released, The Sopranos has taken the top spot.

TV critics at the Guardian compiled the selection of their favourite series, with the top ten including an eclectic mix.

Brideshead Revisited took second place, with Our Friends in the North, Mad Men and A Very Peculiar Practice completing the five favourites.

Other programmes which narrowly missed out on a spot near the top of the list include Talking Heads, State of Play and Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit.

According to the newspaper, almost all the critics consulted “raved” about The Sopranos.

The series, which follows the life of a New Jersey mobster, was described as “an original, absorbing and affectionate study of complicated family values.”

After the first episode hit screens in 1999, the show developed a global fan base and inspired a number of retro Tshirts.
