This news story will self-destruct in five seconds... It’s official, Tom Cruise has signed up for a fourth instalment of Mission Impossible.

Deadline Hollywood broke the news that audiences around the world will be in for more explosive action as Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt.

In an era of digital recordings, we may not see self-destructing tapes but there are bound to be plenty of special effects to keep everyone glued to the screen.

Blogger Mike Fleming also revealed that Cruise is set to produce the movie alongside JJ Abrams, while script writers Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec have also signed on the dotted line.

Cruise and the rest of the cast (who have yet to be announced) should be on set this summer to shoot the movie, which is slated for release around Memorial Day 2011 – that’s the last weekend in May to anyone who’s not familiar with US holidays.

If you’re a fan of the franchise and possibly remember the original TV show from the 1960s and 70s, maybe it’s time to search out those retro T-shirts.ADNFCR-2904-ID-19607589-ADNFCR
