Gotta catch ‘em all fever has swept the nation. We have been on more Pokewalks than actual walks this year and have been caught out in many meetings thanks to the Squirtle that was sat outside the office. No one thought at the beginning of the year that thanks to the biggest trend of the year Pokemon Go! and Netflix that we would be watching Ash, Brock, Misty and co working their way to the Indigo League.

The 8ball Emmys - season

  1. Stranger Things
  2. The Night Of
  3. Daredevil Season 2
  4. Fargo Season 2

And the winner is…
Stranger Things

Stranger Things really has been the standout show of the year. An unmentioned Game of Thrones may have upped its game with season 6 and we have to give credit to Fargo season 2 but Stranger Things wins the Emmy for its sheer nostalgia.

A series that took 10 years to make and offered a bit of a different direction for Netflix, Making a Murderer was the water cooler conversation starter early this year. Following the trial of defendant Steven Avery it had everyone questioning everything they believed about the judicial system. A petition was signed by over 500,000 people and handed into the White House wanting Avery to be pardoned thanks to this Netflix hit.

And the winner is…
It's a four-way tie!

It was excitement overload at 8ball Towers when we heard that the second season of Stranger Things was going to happen. The only problem is we are sat here in our 8ball replica of Dustin's excellent Castroville Artichoke Festival t-shirt with our baseball caps and toothy grin. It’s starting to look a bit weird.

The 8ball Emmys - death

And the winner is…
Battle of the Bastards (Game of Thrones)

This has to be one of the most iconic battle scenes in Game of Thrones history if not of all time. After the Battle of Blackwater Bay and the attack at Hardhome we didn’t think that the Game of Throne’s creators could outdo themselves one more time. But they did, they really, really did.

Rami Malek has had another strong run as the reclusive Elliot Alderson in Mr. Robot and thanks to a breathtaking performance in the Winds of Winter we know that Lena Headey truly is a Queen. But thanks to her breakout role as the psychokinetic Jane “Eleven” Ives in Stranger Things, Millie Bobby Brown has to be 2016’s Acting Goddess.

True Detective Season 2

Aside from the football, there have been plenty of letdowns that we have had to experience this year. But after the explosive first season that starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, we had such high hopes for the second season of True Detective. Unfortunately, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn didn’t have the same chemistry and the season fell flat.

The Music To My Ears Award (aka Best TV Intro)

  1. Game Of Thrones
  2. Making a Murderer

Lifetime Achievement Award

The 8ball Emmys - Lifetime

Michael Scott (Steve Carell)

“Would I rather be feared or loved? Easy, both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me.”

Michael Gary Scott aka The World’s Best Boss (apart from ours obviously ;)) is the inaugural winner of the 8ball Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award. Played by the hilarious Steve Carell, the dopey but sweet Regional Manager of the Scranton branch of paper distribution company Dunder Mifflin Inc. was a firm fan favourite and inspiration for the team at 8ball. Michael Scott may not have been the sharpest tool in the box but was certainly not one to be “truffled” with. He presented us with some of our favourite quotes and moments from The Office. Thank you Michael Scott for the laughs, a worthy winner of the first ever 8ball Emmys Lifetime Achievement Award.
