The Libertines where an iconic band who were both brilliant,frustrating and never far away from self-destruction. The songwriting partnership of Carl Barat and Pete Doherty provided brilliant songs and brought critical success. They were also an amazing live act. But the music was always overshadowed by stories off-stage. Dohertys drug addiction brought his relationship with the rest of the band into disripute and saw him being kicked out for short spells, culminating with him robing Barats flat. Eventually security had to keep band members from fighting each other in the recording studio and after several failed attempts at rehab Doherty left the band permanently. The band was then dissolved as they did not want to continue the band without Doherty. All members are now back on speaking terms and all have successful projects. Rumors of a reunion are floating around, ofcourse, but nothing has been announced. Their music made them one of the most popular bands in years, but the story of self-destruction made them legends.
