Kurt Cobain honoured in home town
06/04/2011
Kurt Cobain has been commemorated with a memorial in his home town to mark the 17th anniversary of the singer's death.
A 3.9-metre statue of a guitar has been erected in Aberdeen, Washington, to honour the Nirvana frontman, who committed suicide on April 5th 1994.
Town mayor Bill Simpson said that he respected Cobain, despite not being a fan of the late musician's material.
"I think it's a good thing the city has devoted some time and energy to honour Kurt Cobain," he added.
Hanging from the guitar is a steel ribbon with printed lyrics from the Nirvana song On a Plain.
"One more special message to go and then I'm done and I can go home," it reads.
The monument sits near to the Young Street Bridge, which is referred to in the band's track Something in the Way.
