Rumours of big screen outing for Jack Bauer

Reports have emerged that a writer is in talks with Fox to pen the screenplay for a film version of 24.

According to Entertainment Weekly's Lynette Rice, Billy Ray - who adapted British TV series State of Play for the silver screen - is in discussion with the network about a feature-length version of the cult series.

If Ms Rice is to be believed, it seems Mr Ray really wants this job as he approached Fox to pitch his idea.

Fans of Jack Bauer will be on the edge of their seats waiting to see if he'll make the transition to the cinema and will probably be the first to rush out and buy any movie T-shirts associated with the hero.

Last month, star Kiefer Sutherland told the publication that he'd "love" to make a film of 24, which has to be a good sign.

He even suggested that the next series could be shot in conjunction with the movie, allowing one to promote the other.

It's been almost a decade since 24 exploded on to our TV screens and with a ninth "day" and the movie in the pipeline, it could continue for a while yet.
