Whether you're excited by the news of a potential Watchmen sequel, or shaking your head with a woeful expression, it's certainly an interesting prospect.

Reports have emerged on the Bleeding Cool website that Watchmen 2 has been moved to the top of the agenda by one of DC Comic's head honchos.

The Watchmen comic was successfully converted to the big screen format last year but this led a bust up between DC Comics, the book's original author Alan Moore and its illustrator Dave Gibbons.

If you're a fan of the graphic novel and wear your vintage t-shirts with pride, you may be wondering how a spin-off will work.

Well, if Bleeding Cool is to be believed, audiences could be offered an extended Watchmen universe, potentially leading to infinite sequels.

There are no details other than that it is likely to happen given that the first film resulted in Watchmen becoming DC's best selling graphic title of all time, the comic news site pointed out.

And with Marvel recently announcing the reboot of its Spiderman franchise with a prequel, is it any wonder that DC may follow suit with a new sequel of its own?
