American Idiot film moves a step closer
13/04/2011
Fans of Green Day could see the musical American Idiot on the silver screen before long, as several key contracts are currently being negotiated.
The production, which received several awards when it was performed on Broadway, looks set to be directed by the man who helmed the stage version, Michael Mayer, according to Deadline.
Although the rock opera itself only featured Green Day songs, as opposed to the band themselves, it has not been confirmed whether Billy Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool will make an appearance in the film adaptation.
Universal Pictures is reportedly locked in talks regarding the prospect of bringing the story to cinema screens, with Milk scribe Dustin Lance Black potentially writing the script.
The original musical told the story of a disaffected youth who heads to the big city to explore his freedom and find meaning in life.
If the movie makes it to cinemas in the UK, fans could show their support for Green Day by wearing one of their music t-shirts from 8ball.co.uk.
