Liam Neeson will star in the sequel to the acclaimed comedy The Hangover, as Mel Gibson has been axed from the much-anticipated film.

Gibson had been set to play a tattoo artist in the movie, which follows the adventures of stars Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Justin Bartha, this time in Bangkok, Thailand.

The controversial Lethal Weapon actor's casting was objected by members of the crew and some of the cast on set, something reports have suggested Gibson is furious about.

A source close to Gibson is quoted by the New York Post as stating: "He doesn't understand why Mike Tyson, a drug user who turned his life around, was given a chance while Mel was kicked to the curb."
