Blur win festival prize for Glastonbury set
20/11/2009
Blur have won the best headline performance accolade at this year's UK Festival Awards.
The Parklife band scooped the prize for their acclaimed set at Glastonbury in June, when they delivered a greatest hits-style performance shortly after reforming.
Frontman Damon Albarn also received another award, being named "festival fitty" at the ceremony in London last night (November 19th).
However, Blur lost out in the anthem of the summer category, in which their song Tender was beaten by Sex on Fire by the Kings of Leon.
According to the BBC, co-director of the awards Steve Jenner described the London act's Glastonbury performance as "awe-inspiring".
Blur, whose reunion prompted many indie fans to dig out their favourite Tshirts from the Britpop era, appeared at the Somerset festival for the first time since 1998.
Mr Jenner added that the UK had enjoyed "another fantastic festival season" in 2009.
Glastonbury was named best major festival at the awards, while Creamfields took the honours for best dance event and T in the Park was commended for having the best festival toilets.
