New sales figures show that Star Trek easily outpaced its rivals in the DVD market during its first week of release.
The Hollywood Reporter cited figures from the Home Media Magazine which revealed that the film sold an estimated 5.7 million discs in the week ending November 22nd.
Meanwhile, first-week sales for Blu-ray copies of Star Trek were estimated at 1.1 million.
Directed by Lost creator JJ Abrams, Star Trek hit cinemas in May 2009 and its popularity is reflected in the retro Captain Kirk and Spock T-shirts worn by fans of the franchise.
The film recasts the crew from the original series, with Chris Pine playing James T Kirk, Zachary Quinto taking the role of Spock and Simon Pegg appearing as Scotty.
Eric Bana, star of Chopper, Hulk and Troy, plays the film's Romulan villain Captain Nero.
In a recent review of the DVD release, the Independent described Star Trek as "huge fun and breathtaking action".
