New sales figures have confirmed that Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the fastest-selling DVD of the year.
The film, which is the sixth movie in the series based on JK Rowling's books, sold 840,000 copies on its first day of release.
Harry Potter cast members made a special appearance at the HMV Oxford Street store in London to celebrate the release of the DVD on Monday (December 7th), when Blu-ray copies were also made available to fans of the franchise.
John Stanley of Warner Home Video said that he was "delighted by the extraordinary first-day sales performance" of the film.
However, the latest Harry Potter effort failed to surpass the first-day sales record set by Mamma Mia!, the Abba-themed musical film that inspired scores of retro T-shirts when it was released last year.
According to the BBC, that movie sold 1,669,084 copies on its first day of release in November 2008, breaking the previous record held by Titanic.
