Vintage T-shirts news: Apocalypse Now tops movie poll
01/12/2009
Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now has been named the best film of the last 30 years.
The movie received the honour in a poll held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the London Film Critics' Circle (LFCC), with Schindler's List taking second place and The Lives of Others coming third.
Loosely based on Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness and set during the Vietnam War, Apocalypse Now featured acclaimed performances by Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall and Marlon Brando.
The film's characters and soundbites such as Colonel Kilgore's "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning" have been featured on many vintage T-shirts since the film's release in 1979.
"I'm delighted that such a powerful and brilliant film as Apocalypse Now has won the enduring admiration of the London critics," said chair of the circle and Observer film critic Jason Solomons.
Brokeback Mountain, Fargo and LA Confidential also featured in the LFCC's top ten films.
