Dig out the Superman T shirts amid rumours about the Man of Steel

Director Christopher Nolan took Batman back to his dark roots with Batman Begins and the Dark Knight, moving it away from the comedy movie series it had become.

Now he's been speaking to the LA Times about taking on the Superman project - although not necessarily as the director.

Either way, the revelation that he's on board, of course accompanied by his long-term producer partner - and wife - Emma Thomas, could inspire fans to buy new Superman T shirts in the hope he'll do for the Man of Steel what he did for the Caped Crusader.

But if you're hoping for news of the plot or even a spoiler, Nolan wasn't letting anything slip.

All he told the publication was: "It's very exciting, we have a fantastic story," adding that it's a take on the story that he's "never seen before that makes it incredibly exciting".

The screenplay's being penned by David Goyer and there are rumours that Nolan's brother Jonathan - currently busy writing the script for the third Batman movie - could take the helm.

It looks like we've got a lot to look forward to in terms of superhero movies coming up - a third Batman, a new Superman and the news of a Spiderman prequel.
