Fans to pay tribute to Slipknot bassist with music T-shirts

25/05/2010

Paul Gray, the bassist with Slipknot, has been discovered dead in a hotel in the US.

The 38-year-old was found in a hotel in Des Moines, Iowa, by a member of staff, with the death not being treated as suspicious.

It will come as a shock to fans of the metal band, famous for their regular use of masks.

Only four years ago the group, most of whom come from in or around Des Moines, won a Grammy Award for Before I Forget.

"The heavy metal world has lost an immense talent and Slipknot's loyal following will ensure he and his music are remembered for years to come," says Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy, which runs the Grammys.

Fans may now wish to pay tribute to Gray - and while masks are likely to be a popular choice, some could also wear music T-shirts featuring the band.

Slipknot were on tour as recently as last October, when they completed dozens of gigs around North America.
