David Bowie 'not playing Glastonbury'
30/11/2009
David Bowie has denied claims that he is weighing up an offer to perform at Glastonbury.
Newspaper reports had linked the 62-year-old star with an appearance at the Somerset festival, which celebrates its 40th anniversary next year.
However, a statement on Bowie's official website said: "Sadly, there is absolutely no substance to this story".
The singer, whose various aliases and iconic appearance have inspired a range of vintage T-shirts since the 1970s, performed at Glastonbury in 1971.
Last week, the festival announced that U2 have been booked to make their first ever Glastonbury appearance by headlining the Pyramid Stage on Friday June 25th.
Meanwhile, other rumours suggest that Devon rockers Muse could return to the festival next year, having topped the bill on the final day in 2004.
In September, organiser Michael Eavis told the BBC that he was "trying to get the best headliners in the world" to mark the festival's 40th year.
Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Blur took centre stage at this year’s Glastonbury.
